9 April 2001 Media Release

Yieldbroker.com receives Government and ASIC approval to launch Australia and New Zealand’s first online fixed income debt trading portal

Yieldbroker.com today announced it had received approval from the Government and the Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) to launch its fixed income debt trading portal, a first for the Australian and New Zealand markets.

Yieldbroker.com offers institutional and professional clients a faster and more efficient alternative to the current telephone deal execution method for Australian and New Zealand fixed income products.

Yieldbroker.com was first created in April 2000 by its founding sponsors Deutsche Bank, Salomon Smith Barney, UBS Warburg and Westpac Banking Corporation and officially launched its co-mingled research portal in June 2000.

Clients will be able to view live indicative prices, request firm quotes and execute outright, exchange for physical or switch trades with the participating market makers in Australian government, semi-government and corporate bonds and New Zealand government bonds in a fast, secure environment with no fees.

The participating market makers will not have access to each other’s information via the site. Only approved clients will be able to view the co-mingled research and prices quoted by the participating market makers.

Yieldbroker.com’s Business Manager, Rachael Rogers, said the approval was an exciting first for the Australian and New Zealand fixed income markets.

“Yieldbroker.com provides a fantastic opportunity for both clients and market makers to streamline deal execution and processing. It is also simple and easy to use,” Ms Rogers said.

While the four founding financial institutions will initially provide live quotes and execute trades on Yieldbroker.com, the platform is intended to be opened to all other major market makers in the Australian and New Zealand fixed income markets.

Clients can commence trading through Yieldbroker.com following the execution of standard form electronic trading client agreements.

Yieldbroker.com’s trading application was developed by Adaptive Technology Pty Ltd and enabled by eServ Ltd.
